In 2019, the Anchorage Wine & Food Festival will be raising special funds to support the work of Dr. Chun Chao who is developing tailored, long-term care guidelines for survivors of young adult cancer to increase their quality of life and life expectancy though prevention, screening and early intervention of the delayed health effects caused by cancer and its treatments.
Young adults are eight times more likely to get cancer than younger people and are given larger amounts of chemotherapy which can cause serious health problems years later. Unlike for survivors of childhood cancer, there is currently no age-appropriate standard guideline for long-term care for survivors of young adult cancer. This lack of research has put survivors of young adult cancer at risk for reduced quality of life and shortened life span, leading to less improvement in their outcomes compared to younger or older cancer patients.
Become a partner with Dr. Chao to radically improve outcomes for young adult cancer patients by donating now.
For more than a 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
