Your generous support helps us do the most for people with cancer today, and work tirelessly to find cures to end the disease tomorrow. By making a 100% tax-deductible donation to the Anchorage Wine & Food Festival, you are providing Alaskan cancer patients with the resources they need free of charge to get to and through their lifesaving treatment, such as rides to and from appointments, and flights and lodging for those requiring treatment far from home. With your gift, you are also bringing cancer prevention and screening education to the far corners of our state, and supporting the leading-edge cancer research that will save countless lives tomorrow.
In 2018, the Anchorage Wine & Food Festival raised special funds to support the work of cancer researcher Joshua Breunig, PhD, who is championing research into brain tumors, the leading cause of cancer-related death in children and young adults. Dr. Breunig’s award from the American Cancer Society, supported by your generous donations, is being used to investigate the function of a particular gene family, called Ets transcription factors, which appear to play an essential role in pediatric and adult tumor growth. Dr. Breunig and his team are working to verify that blocking the function of this gene family will prevent tumor growth.
For more than a 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
